merry christmas everyone

I will most definitely blog later with all the days festivities, but for now, this shot of the tree will have to do. And no, I did NOT drink too much egg nog, this is purposely shot out of focus. It's all warm and pretty and makes me feel good.

Merry Christmas Kristin! After several visits to your blog this past year...and seeing the beautiful images you have been creating with your 85 lens....I strongly hinted to my husband....and much to my delight Santa delivered one to me this year!! Now if I only had half your talent, maybe I could take some amazing pictures! Any tips? I have so much to learn. Maybe I will post on my website some of my images and invite you to come see....? :) Happy New Year....oh, and I am loving your "Techno freak/geek" info you are including on your blog! Please keep it up! I have said it before, but you are such an photography inspiration!

Thanks, Nichelle! And WOW! Santa was awesome for you!

I really do love my 85. I have several lenses in my bag and this one is most always on my camera. Seriously.

I'll try and include more techno-geek stuff for my photography inspired friend. LOL

Merry Christmas! And when you see Santa? Tell him, "Way to Go!"

Hey Kristin...Nichelle here again...I feel like a pest...such a rookie I am...but I figure I could suffer in silence, or I could ask a pro and maybe learn something! :)

As I mentioned in my earlier post, "Santa" brought me the Canon 85 mm f/1.8 USM lens, and today I realized that there is the Canon 85 mm f/1.2L II USM lens....but of course since it is L glass, the price difference is extreme.

Can we talk lenses? Here is what I have so far for my Canon 30D. 580 speedlite, 70-300 mm IS telephoto that I use for action shots and even some outdoor portraits, 28-135 mm IS that I have been using as a portrait lens, and now I'm searching for a great complimentry lens to add to my bag for portraits, low light photography without flash, etc. I was hoping the 85 would be that lens, but maybe I should return the one I have, and save my $$ for the Big Daddy 85 L glass....? Any suggestions?

Hey, Nichelle.

For portraits, the 85 1.8 IS my main lens. I don't have the 1.2, so I can't speak for that lens. And I'm not familar with the 70-300 IS.

Here's what's used the most in my work, in order of % of use.

85 1.8
50 1.4 (great for sports too! BB)
16-35 2.8 (would love a 24 though, I'm really liking the primes.)
100 2.8 macro (really using this more since I've purchased the full frame 5d)
70-200 2.8 IS (I rarely use this one. At weddings for long ailses and soccer games. But it's nice to know it's there.)

Hope that helps! I know if I had the money burnint a hole, the 1.2 would be super sweet, but I have many other things of my list of wants right now. She will definitely have to wait.
